International Program

Beyond inspiring travel and academic pursuits, Neuchâtel offers its students a variety of opportunities designed to inform and inspire their worldview.

International Speaker Series

Students have access to two types of speaker series. A career seminar series helps students plan ahead with new insights into career planning, communications and acquisition. These decisions are also informed by the incredible stories imparted by the Guest Speaker Series, which exposes students to the inspiring stories of speakers from a variety of academic and corporate disciplines, as well as NGOs.

Speakers include:

Dr. Tyrone Hayes
Dr. Hayes is the first to link pesticides to the mysterious ill health of amphibians native to North America. A leading biologist at the University of California at Berkley, Dr. Hayes gave a talk about his discovery that the weed-killer atrazine may be short-circuiting the reproductive machinery of amphibians exposed to farm chemicals in spring runoff.
Mr. Robert Johnston
Mr. Johnston is currently employed by the LMU at the Geschwister Scholl Institut for Politics on a 2-year project on Guilt and Reconciliation. A trained guide for the KZ memorial at Dachau, he has led countless "Third Reich" tours in Munich to NJC students, and presented a lecture on the topic "What were they thinking? Understanding the rise and fall of Nazi Germany".
Naseeb Dajani
A former UN worker, Mr. Dajani began a non-governmental organization with Sir Peter Ustinov called Global Harmony Foundation, and runs social and humanitarian development projects around the developing world.
Mr. & Mrs. Basil Eastwood
Mr. & Mrs. Basil Eastwood have established a grassroots fund that works to educate AIDS orphans in Zambia in the name of their daughter Cecily, who was tragically killed in a car accident while doing a gap year in Zambia.
Peter Dalglish
Mr Dalglish has launched a variety of efforts to help improve child rights and conditions, including Street Kids International and Schools Without Borders, an organization that designs community service and leadership projects for motivated high school students. In November 2002, the International Labour Organization appointed him Chief Technical Advisor for its program in Nepal, which is aimed at the elimination of the most exploitive forms of child labour.
The Honourable Sergio Marchi
Former Toronto Councillor and Member of Parliament, Mr. Marchi served as Federal Cabinet Minister in three different portfolios: Citizenship & Immigration, Environment, & International Trade. Mr. Marchi served as Canadian Ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, and has been nominated by the Canadian government to serve as a Commissioner on the UN Global Commissions of International Migration.

International Competitions

Model United Nations
A limited number of NJC students have the chance to highlight their international experience at a simulation of the United Nations. Students from local and international schools around the world spend four days participating in a mock session of the UN. Speakers, including local politicians and diplomats, address the students on the real problems facing international government. These events normally take place in Berlin in the autumn and St. Petersburg in the spring.
European International Schools Acting & Debating Competitions
NJC students can take their place among the best and brightest from around the world in a unique series of competitions. Students put their best foot forward against students from places ranging from The Hague to Cairo in debate, acting, and impromptu speech. This competition takes place once each semester in a designated European city.
