Educational Travel Program

At the heart of the Neuchâtel Junior College experience is the belief that the best kind of education is the type that combines rigorous classroom learning with experiential travel and personal growth.

As such, we support personal and school-organized excursions as a means to opening students' hearts and minds to the possibilities of the world around themselves.

Independent Travel

Students can earn opportunities to travel independently once they have proven themselves academically and personally responsible. Students who qualify are permitted 3 weekends per semester to experience places like Vienna, Munich, Paris, Brussels and Milan on their own terms.

These weekends away are hugely influential in building maturity, awareness and confidence. They also foster an immense personal appreciation for different cultures and people – a huge advantage in today’s dynamic and diverse global village.

School-Organized Travel

School-organized day trips and excursions encourage students to understand, rather than memorize, the locations and artifacts they may only have read about in textbooks. These programs are a phenomenal way to invigorate student learning by handing them real world contact with history – and their future.

The school year commences with a wonderful orientation trip through Switzerland. During the course of a week, students not only experience the fun and excitement of their adoptive home, but also begin to bond with new friends and faculty. This trip also helps assess French language skills, finalize timetables and pair students with their pension accommodations. By mid-September, students are settled, and energized about the huge adventures and learning that lie ahead.

During the course of their year, students will go on two more mandatory mid-semester excursions, plus have the chance to embark on educational weekend and holiday trips, including the semester break family ski holiday in Zermatt.

School-organized travel ensures that students develop a closer, deeper relationship to their course material. School trips often offer community service components as well, which help students to foster empathy, insight and a humane outlook.
