Carmela had her first taste of Europe, more notably Switzerland, at the age of ten - leaving with a tummy full of chocolate and a dream of one day living in the Alps. While studying, working and travelling in Southeast Asia during her third year at Western, her love of travel was rekindled. In 2010, she packed her bags and headed for the small lakeside town of Neuchâtel in search of chocolate. Since then, she has lived in four different cities in Switzerland, working in the event industry and as an English teacher. She is pleased to be a part of the NJC community since 2015.
On her days off, Carmela can be found woodworking, snowboarding, or on any given bus, train or plane in Europe exploring new places. She lives for new experiences, and has managed to go paragliding in Interlaken, ice climbing in Iceland and hiking in the Grand Canyon in the same month.
Carmela has an Honours BA in Media, Information and Technoculture and a Certificate in Professional Writing from the University of Western Ontario, a Certificate in French Language and Literature from the Université de Neuchâtel and a trilingual MA in Business Communication and Economic Policy from the Université de Fribourg. She is currently pursuing her MBA at the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business (University College Dublin).
