French Language

Locals in Neuchâtel speak French, but knowing the language is not a prerequisite of our program. You just need to be willing to learn, and we'll help you!
Switzerland is one of the best countries in the world in which to learn French—with greater ease—given the beauty and clarity of the Swiss-French accent. Students study French for either credit or non-credit depending on their university plans and abilities. With the exception of the optional Core, Extended and Immersion French classes offered, all of our Ontario Grade 12 courses are instructed in English by outstanding Canadian, Ontario-certified teachers.

Since my arrival in Switzerland, my proficiency in French has vastly improved through my pension life and my core French class.
Students who do not choose to enroll in Grade 12 or Advanced Placement French must take a non-credit course in French Communication & Culture geared to their level for 80 minutes each week. The College also organizes student exchanges with local schools to improve French fluency for those students who are learning the language. Bilingual students have the opportunity to improve their accent and further expand their vocabulary by conversing in French in the community on a daily basis.

“I loved living in a country that did not speak my first language because it made me immerse myself in the culture more than I thought was possible”
Neuchâtel Junior College offers the unique opportunity to study Canadian curriculum abroad. While living in Switzerland in a French community, students enjoy an international education through travel and experiential learning in Europe. Gap year and Grade 12  high school students gain international experience and develop independence and life skills that prepare them for university and the global workplace.
