A Look Back: Zermatt '09

Cat Lavigne '09
Every skier dreams of ripping through fresh knee high powder, having the sun shine down on the back of their necks as they race down the hill.  Warm lunches at a mountainside lodge looking up at the Matterhorn.  No student could ask for a better end-of-semester break.  While some students made their way back home to Canada at the end of the first semester, the majority of us Neuchâtel kids, joined by our parents (for most) travelled to Zermatt for a straight week of fun in the sun… on a ski slope.

After a long (and somewhat eventful) bus ride, and a ride on a cog train, the group finally made it to Zermatt.  With the dim early evening sun shining off the snow-capped rooftops, it felt like we had just stepped into a post card.  It wasn’t ten minutes before one of us was almost run-over by one of the crazy electric taxis.  It’s no wonder why NJC keeps going back every winter.  Whether it was the unparalleled skiing conditions, the ever-constant sun shining all week, the après-ski with friends and family, the fondue at the Igloo Bar, or the late night in T-Bar, Zermatt remains one of the most memorable trips of the year.
