Mr. John Phillips

Director of Guidance
BA Mount Allison University
BEd Mount Allison University
Mr. Phillips has an extensive long term relationship with NJC. His two daughters attended the school for Gap Years in 2011-12 and 2015-16 respectively, and he was a member of staff working as a University Guidance Counsellor in 2018-19.  In this role, Mr. Phillips was honoured to help students apply to and receive acceptances from universities ranging from Georgetown and St. Andrews University; and various prestigious university programs from coast to coast in Canada.

Throughout his 33 year career with the Halton District School Board Mr. Phillips was a Teacher, Head of Guidance, Vice Principal, and Principal at ten different high schools. After he “retired” as the principal of Oakville Trafalgar High School, he continued to foster his passion for post secondary planning by accepting positions at the International School of Penang (Uplands) in Malaysia - as their Head of Pastoral and University Guidance Lead - and then at Neuchâtel Junior College.

Mr. Phillips and his wife Laura are thrilled to return to NJC and are excited about travelling and meeting yet another group of promising NJC students. As Mr. Phillips explains, “Neuchatel is not only transformative for students, but for anyone fortunate enough to spend time living, working, and travelling throughout Europe. I consider myself very lucky to have this opportunity and can’t wait to work with students as they prepare for the next chapter in their academic journey.”
Neuchâtel Junior College offers the unique opportunity to study Canadian curriculum abroad. While living in Switzerland in a French community, students enjoy an international education through travel and experiential learning in Europe. Gap year and Grade 12  high school students gain international experience and develop independence and life skills that prepare them for university and the global workplace.
