International Events

These international events, held in different European cities each year, provide our students with the opportunity to expand their world view by competing, problem-solving, debating and sharing knowledge with hundreds of students from other European schools.

  • The Model United Nations

The Model United Nations, an academic simulation of the United Nations educates participants about real world events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. Each semester, small groups of NJC students are selected to participate. They travel to another city, typically Berlin in the Fall term and London in the Spring, for a four-day mock session with students from international schools around the world. Participants role-play as diplomats representing a nation or NGO in a simulated session of an organ (committee) of the United Nations, such as the Security Council or the General Assembly. Participants research a country, take on roles as diplomats, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult, and then develop solutions to real world problems.

International Guest Speakers

Geneva is home to over 200 international organizations including the European United Nations, the International Red Cross, and the World Health Organization. The proximity of NJC to this vibrant city means that we have access to some of the most interesting guest speakers in the world. Her Excellency, Jennifer MacIntyre, Canadian Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, addressed the NJC community, as did actor R. H. Thompson and Dr. William Maddux of INSEAD at the class of 2016's graduation ceremony. The Class of 2020 received words of wisdom from Canadian film and television director and producer Miranda de Pencier at NJC's first virtual graduation ceremony.
